Who We Are
Castleman Healthcare is a GP federation in Dorset owned by 12 GP practices. Our aim is to help our practices meet the many challenges of delivering primary care. Established in 2015, Castleman Healthcare exists to help our member practices achieve more by working together. Our core business is designed to alleviate some of challenges and pressures faced by our general practices through providing some direct services and business management.
Our Practices
Castleman Healthcare is owned by 12 GP practices across Dorset. The GP practices collaborate as three separate PCNs to improve care for their patients, but also come together as Castleman Healthcare. We help support our member practices and the PCNs to meet the many challenges of delivering primary care for over 130,000 patients.
Our members are arranged around three PCN's (Primary Care Networks) serving over 125,000 patients in multiple local communities. The PCNs are Crane Valley, Wimborne & Ferndown and Poole North
What We Do
Castleman's purpose is to make our practice teams working lives easier by representing them during discussions which will impact the way healthcare is delivered locally. We provide direct services to our practices and Primary Care Networks (PCNs), including business intelligence, business and clinical services. We also represent the voice of our practices during discussions about how healthcare in Dorset is to be delivered in future.

General practice faces enormous challenges, with individuals, practices and PCNs all under unprecedented pressure. Our core business is designed to alleviate some of that pressure, reflected in our purpose - ‘making your working lives easier’.
Also important is the way we work on behalf of our practices and the PCNs they are aligned to and fits in line with our values of integrity, trust, fairness and ‘doing things properly’. This defines us as a business, particularly the way we represent our member practices during discussions which will impact the way patient care is delivered locally.
Staff from different practices contribute to the running of Castleman Healthcare, clinicians work in specialist roles to support our own staff, and we employ and have access to people with business skills who help us operate in a lean and efficient way.
Each year Castleman agrees our objectives with our member practices PCNs and deliver on these by running Castleman as a successful and sustainable business with a lean structure.
Our history goes back to 2015, when we were established. The Public Health contracts were our first successful contract, and we also deliver the successful ICPCS service. We provide business consultancy support to the PCNs and the Dorset General Practice Alliance. We work with our practices and PCNs together as the Castleman Advisory Committee thereby ensuring our work is aligned to their aims and objectives.
We operate as a not-for-profit company and all financial surpluses are reinvested into our practices.
